Service Description

DATES: ⫸ WK1: Sun, 16 Feb 2025, 5.30 to 8.30pm ⫸ WK2: Sun, 23 Feb 2025, 5.30 to 8.30pm ⫸ WK3: Sun, 2 Mar 2025, 5.30 to 8.30pm Session length may vary based on class size [may be shorter if less than 4 students]. Please take note of ALL dates + the length of the sessions for this course. We require a minimum of 3 participants to run this course. COST: ⫸ $160 FOCUS OF THIS COURSE: ⫸ The concept of the "game" [hunting!]. We build foundational skills by having the dog search for their favourite reward [food or toy] while you learn how to read your dog, as they work. We work to build a desire for this game, as dog's rediscover their natural hunting instincts! Growing your dog's motivation, confidence + independence are essential during this initial phase. This course is beneficial for: ⫸ relationship building with your dog; ⫸ adding more enrichment into your dogs routine; ⫸ dogs that are environmentally sensitive; ⫸ reactive dogs who have limited options for activities; ⫸ dogs who may need a little hand building confidence + independence; + ⫸ most dogs! LOCATION: ⫸ Calder Hall, Calder HOW THESE SESSIONS RUN: ⫸ Only 1 dog will search at a time. Each dog will have multiple searches. ⫸ After your search, your dog is returned to your car [or crate, outside of the room we work in]. We encourage you to return to the room to watch other teams work - you will learn loads by observing them plus we have discussions. This rest also allows your dog to process what they have learnt, between each turn. ⫸ Should your dog need company while resting, it's ok to remain with them [or bring a friend/family member to assist]. We do this so all dogs in attendance feel safe in the search environment and are free to work, without stress. ⫸ We welcome sensitive + reactive dogs to our classes. PRE-REQUISITES: ⫸ Nothing! WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING: ⫸ Please read the full description below!! WHAT COMES AFTER THIS COURSE: ⫸ Graduates of this course can progress to our Intro to Odour course where dog's learn to search for a target odour [usually Birch, first, but it could also be Anise, Clove or Cypress], if they wish to proceed past the Intro to K9 Nose Work® course. ⫸ NOTE: Teams must attend ALL sessions allocated for this workshop to be eligible to graduate. Unfortunately, there are NO refunds or credits for missed sessions.
